Incoming Data Support


Siemons Mailing Service supports most major forms of electronic communications and data formats. Below is the basic description of communications and data formats, and related support document forms. Should you have a media or database format that is not listed please contact customer service for futher assistance.      
  Recommended Data Formats: When submitting data please complete our database layout form. The following data formats are preferred.
  • dBase
  • MS Access
  • FoxPro
  • Excel
  • Fixed Length
  • Comma",", [tab], "$" Delimited
Recommended Media Formats: We are able to receive data in a number of different media formats. The following are the most common.
  • E-mail
  • CD ROM
  • 100M & 200M Zip Disks
  • 4mm Tape
  • 8mm Tape
  • 3 1/2" Floppies
  • 5 1/4" Floppies
  • 9 Track tapes [ 1/2" ]
  • 150 meg cartridge
  • (FTP) File Transfer Protocol
 
  Recommended Data Transmission: The acceptable methods for transmitting data electronically to Siemons Mailing Service is Email or FTP. To establish a personalized FTP account, or receive Email addresses, please contact customer support to open an account for you. You can also call (510) 841-1131 to establish an account.
    Email
  • This is a convenient and easy method of transferring files via the Internet. However, there are some limits to this method involving file size and how the file is attached to you email message. We ask that you append your files to your email messages as an attachment to the document and not as part of the document. You can affect this setting from within your email client using the properties tab. Please be sure to compress your files prior to attaching them to your email to ensure that the data is not corrupted during transmission.
    FTP (File Transfer Protocol)
  • Once you have established a account as stated above you are ready to transfer files via FTP. You can use your own FTP client program, or our online FTP interface totransfer files to your personnalized FTP account. Compressing your files using WINZIP or compatible compression programs will ensure that the data is not corrupted during transmission. For security reasons the FTP address will only be given out when an account is created.
 
  Encryption: For those clients who desire the security of PGP encryption, click public key to download our Public Keys.
